Education is key in improving social-economic development. Two thirds of the population in Makueni County, Kenya are classified as poor. Most families are not able to provide for themselves and support education for their children. This has led to bias against girls, since traditionally the boy child is preferred and supported by many families. Our ability to educate and empower girl students will mean girls and boys have equal opportunities which increases the number of people with income and employment.

Girls’ education has been proven to be one of the most beneficial strategies to enhance development and economic growth. When a girl is protected and empowered, her family and community benefit and thrive. Educated mothers tend to have a more secure life with healthier children and these children are also more likely to attend school, breaking the cycle of illiteracy and poverty.
